On 10 April 2024, Ms. Siriporn Tantipanyathep, Consul-General of Thailand in Kolkata called on Shri Raghubar Das, Governor of Odisha, during her visit to Odisha. The two sides exchanged views on opportunities and potentials in promoting economic and trade cooperation between Thailand and Odisha, Buddhist circuit tourism in Odisha, and facilitation for ease of travel for both countries’ tourists.
Moreover, Odisha is an Eastern Indian state with high economic growth potentials with abundant mineral resources and No. 1 steel production capacity in India. Odisha state government also enacts “Make in Odisha” policy, which is in line with the national “Make in India” policy, comprising 6 focus sectors; namely, tourism, food processing, chemicals and petrochemicals, electronics, ancillary and downstream in metal sector, and textile. Odisha also possesses many interesting tourist attractions relatively unknown to Thai people such as Konark Sun Temple, which was inscribed as a world heritage site by the UNESCO in 1984.
