On 8 June 2026, the Royal Thai Consulate-General in Kolkata, in collaboration with Wat Thai Budhgaya and Global Power Synergy Public Company Limited (GPSC), launched the second phase of its Solar Energy Support Project for Panchasila Public School. The project reflects Thailand’s goodwill and gesture to improving learning opportunities for underprivileged children in Bodhgaya.

As part of the initiative, the school received solar-powered lighting systems, solar-powered ceiling fans, educational supplies, a water-cooling unit, and upgraded sanitation facilities, including renovated toilets and handwashing stations. A special lunch was also provided for students. In addition, vocational skills training programmes were organized for teachers and students, equipping them with practical knowledge and valuable life skills that foster self-reliance, broaden future opportunities, and contribute to long-term community resilience.

The initiative was made possible through the dedicated support of the monks and nuns of Wat Thai Budhagaya. The event was attended by Dr. Mahashweta Maharathi, Secretary of the Bodhgaya Temple Management Committee (BTMC), and Dr. Arvind Kumar Singh, Member of the BTMC Executive Committee. Both expressed their appreciation for the generosity and goodwill of Thailand and the Thai people in continuously supporting local communities. They also commended the Royal Thai Consulate-General and Wat Thai Budhagaya for their unwavering efforts to create opportunities, inspire hope, and improve the well-being of disadvantaged children and vulnerable communities in India.

Beyond its immediate benefits, the project serves as a powerful testament to the enduring friendship between Thailand and India. By investing in education, renewable energy, and human capacity development, Thailand continues to demonstrate its commitment to inclusive and sustainable development while strengthening people-to-people ties between the two countries.
