On 5th December,2014, the Royal Thai Consulate-General, Kolkata hosted an event on the occasion of the 87th Birthday Anniversary of His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej and the National Day of the Kingdom of Thailand at The Park Hotel, Kolkata, from 7.30 – 10.30 pm.
The occasion was honoured by the Government of Bengal with the appearance of Mr. Trilochan Singh, the Additional Chief Secretary, Government of Bengal, as the Chief Guest. Among around 250 guests that attended the event were high level officials of the West Bengal Government, Consular Corps of Kolkata, Corporate Sector, Friends of Thailand and Thai nationals. The evening started with the Thai Traditional Dance performance by Thai students in Kolkata followed by the playing of the Thai Royal Anthem and the national anthem of India. Miss Patthira Chiempricha, the acting Consul-General, then wished his Majesty a long life and good health, and invited the Chief Guest on stage for a toasting to His Majesty and Thailand-India’s friendship.
In keeping with the celebration of the birthday anniversary of His Majesty the King, the Royal Thai Consulate-General displayed posters about the life of His Majesty and his many years of dedicated work in improving lives of the Thai people. The guests also enjoyed a variety of Thai dishes prepared by Thai Chefs at the Park Hotel, fruits and desserts from Thai Airways, and the mood of the event was kept light and pleasant by the songs written by His Majesty throughout the evening.
Overall the evening was a grand success and all the guests extended their best wishes to His Majesty, King Bhumibol Adulyadej of Thailand.
