On 20 October 2023, the Royal Thai Consulate-General in Kolkata organizeda ceremony commemorating His Majesty King Chulalongkorn (King Rama V) Memorial Day on 23 October 2023. Mr. Piyapan Atipatya, Acting Consul-General of Thailand in Kolkata, led the officials together with their spouses to pay homage as a tribute to His Majesty King Chulalongkorn.

His Majesty paid a visit to India in 1872 and Calcutta was King Chulalongkorn’s first port of arrival and the then capital of the British Raj. The visit to India and Calcutta has played a pivotal role in Thailand-India relations and had thus given the first impression of modernized India to the King of Siam, which would inspire him in his subsequent reforms that would, in turn, result in the modernization of the Kingdom.
