On 24 September 2023, the Royal Thai Consulate-General in Kolkata in association with the Royal Thai Monastery, Bodhgaya and Maha Bodhi Society of India organized a ceremony for the Presentation of 72 Buddha Statues, “Phra Buddha Jayanti Sri Siam”, bestowed by His Majesty the King of Thailand held at Maha Bodhi Society of India, Kolkata. The ceremony was well attended by Phra Dhambodhivong, Chairperson of Thai Buddhist Missionary in India and Nepal and Chief Abbot of the Royal Thai Monastery, Bodhgaya, Ms. Acharapan Yavaprapas, Consul-General of Thailand, high-ranking monks of the Thai Dhammaduta Bhikkus in India-Nepal, Mrs. Neelam Rani, Director MEA Branch Secretariat at Kolkata, the Chief Abbot from the Nipponzan Myohoji temple, senior monks from various Buddhist organizations, representatives from the Mahabodhi Society, and Department of Buddhist Studies, University of Calcutta, as well as Thai nationals residing in Kolkata.

Phra Dhambodhivong emphasized the purpose of the ceremony, which was to offer blessings to His Majesty the King of Thailand in celebration of his 72nd Birthday Anniversary on July 28, 2024. The ceremony also aimed to strengthen the longstanding bonds between Thailand and India, serve as a platform for the propagation of Buddhism in India, and foster deep ties between the people of two countries. He also highlighted Kolkata's significance for Thailand, with strong connection in Buddhism, diplomacy, and royal family, dating back to King Rama V's visit in 1872.

Ms. Acharapan Yavaprapas, Consul-General of Thailand in Kolkata, emphasized the enduring ties between the two countries, particularly the deep-rooted connections in religion and people-to-people relations. She also stressed the pivotal role of the Thai Dhammaduta Bhikkus in propagating Buddhism in India and expressed gratitude to the Maha Bodhi Society of India for their contributions and collaboration in organizing the event.

The presentation of Buddha Statues, "Phra Buddha Jayanti Sri Siam," represents an ongoing effort to promote Buddhism in India. Since its inception, this project marked the first year that His Majesty the King of Thailand graciously bestowed "Phra Buddha Jayanti Sri Siam" Buddha statues to the Royal Thai Monastery for the Indian Buddhist community. This event reaffirmed strong commitment of the Royal Thai Consulate-General in strengthening religious ties in supporting the work of Thai Dhammaduta Bhikkus in India-Nepal, and promoting Buddhism, further cementing the enduring relationship between both countries.
