Royal Thai Consulate-General in Kolkata held Remembrance Ceremonies In Tribute to Her Majesty Queen Sirikit, The Queen Mother of Thailand

On 27 October 2025, the Royal Thai Consulate-General in Kolkata, led by Consul-General Siriporn Tantipanyathep, held a solemn and most heartfelt ceremony to honor the memory of Her Majesty Queen Sirikit, The Queen Mother of Thailand. The event, which took place at the Consulate-General’s Chancery, was attended by Consulate officials and local staff, who came together to express their deepest respect and profound gratitude for Her Majesty’s extraordinary life of devoted service to the nation, boundless compassion, and unwavering dedication to the Kingdom of Thailand and its people. As part of the memorial activities, the Consulate-General opened a Book of Condolences for the diplomatic community, representatives from various sectors in India, and members of the Thai community in Kolkata, Bodhgaya, and surrounding areas.

The Book of Condolences was made available for signing from 27 to 31 October 2025, offering an opportunity for all to pay their respects and share in the collective mourning. In continuing tribute to Her Majesty’s memory, on 30 October 2025, the Consulate-General, in collaboration with the Royal Thai Monastery in Bodhgaya, held a merit-making ceremony to mark the 7th day following Her Majesty’s passing. Further merit-making ceremonies will be held on the 15th day (7 November 2025), the 50th day (12 December 2025), and
the 100th day (31 January 2026), as part of the ongoing series of memorial events. In addition, the Royal Thai Monastery in Bodhgaya has organized daily Abhidhamma chanting ceremonies to continue for 30 consecutive days, beginning on 26 October 2025. The Consulate-
General has also invited monks, nuns, and pilgrims to offer their respects by signing the Book of Condolences at the Royal Thai Monastery, from 27 October 2025 to 31 January 2026, as a part of the ongoing commemoration.

Further honoring Her Majesty’s memory, the Nipponzan Myohoji Temple in Kolkata hosted a special remembrance ceremony on
5 November 2025. The ceremony included the lighting of 108 oil lamps and Buddhist chanting, dedicated to Her Majesty’s immeasurable grace and compassion. Consul-General Siriporn presided over the ceremony as the lay leader, accompanied by Consulate officials and their families, local staff and Indian devotees. The event also included the offering of Sangkhadana and lunch to the monks, symbolizing a profound gesture of reverence and a dedication of merit in Her Majesty’s memory. These ceremonies reflect the deep reverence, heartfelt mourning, and enduring gratitude of the Thai community in Eastern India for Her Majesty Queen Sirikit, The Queen Mother. Her Majesty’s benevolence, love and selfless dedication have left an everlasting legacy – one that continues to shine as a beacon of inspiration for all generations. To the Thai people, she will forever be remembered with the deepest love and reverence as “The Mother of the Land”.
