From 6 to 7 November 2021, Mr. Kasemsan Thongsiri, Acting Consul-General of Thailand in Kolkata, and Mr. Nutt Svasti-Salee, Consul, Royal Thai Consulate-General in Kolkata, attended the Buddhist Kathina Ceremony at Wat Thai Sarnath in Sarnath, Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh, India. This Buddhist Kathina Ceremony was hosted by the Royal Thai Consulate-General in Chennai, and presided by Her Excellency Miss Pattarat Hongtong, Ambassador of Thailand in New Delhi, and joined by members and representatives of the Team Thailand in India namely Board of Investment of Thailand in Mumbai, Tourism Authority of Thailand in New Delhi, Office of Royal Thai Naval Attaché in New Delhi, Office of Royal Thai Air Force Attaché in New Delhi, apart from diplomats, officers and staff from the Royal Thai Embassy in New Delhi and the Royal Thai Consulate-General in Chennai.

Sarnath, Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh is in the jurisdiction of the Royal Thai Embassy in New Delhi, and is considered the gateway towards many more Buddhist heritage sites situated in Uttar Pradesh for Thai pilgrims, most of whom start their Buddhist pilgrimage journey in Bodhgaya, Gaya, Bihar, which is in the jurisdiction of the Royal Thai Consulate-General in Kolkata.
