Thai Festival Week 2018 in Kolkata, India

 

                    From 1 until 7 June 2018, the Royal Thai Consulate-General, Kolkata, organised the ‘Thai Festival Week’, which consisted of tourism, culture and trade promotion activities with active participation and support from a number of Thai and Indian private sectors. The details are as follows:

 

1.        1 June 2018, “the Inauguration” – the Royal Thai Consulate-General inaugurated the Thai Festival at the Loft, Quest Mall, Kolkata’s leading department store.
The inauguration showcased cultural demonstrations and Thai products. Thai food from 4 five-star hotels in Kolkata was served during this event. Thailand Foundation’s Street Food Mobile Application was also introduced in this inauguration. Moreover, the lucky draw of Thai Airways return tickets (Kolkata-Bangkok-Kolkata) and a Luxury Package including accommodation, complimentary massage service and airport transfers from the Tourism Authority of Thailand, were also part of the highlights.

100 guests of the inauguration were Kolkatans who frequently visit Thailand, local press agents, and members of consular corps based in Kolkata. Ms. Venus Asawapoom, Acting Consul-General, and Mr. Deepak Adhikari, known as ‘Dev’, Kolkata’s number-one superstar, the Chief Guest, presided at the Opening Ceremony. Members of the Team Thailand who attended this event were Mr. Kris Theerarak, General Manager, Thai Airways International, Kolkata Office, and Mr. Isra Stapanaseth, Director, Tourism Authority of Thailand, New Delhi Office.

 

2.        2 June 2018, “the Thai Festival” – the Royal Thai Consulate-General organized the Thai Festival for the general public at the Quest Mall (ground floor), with
a photography exhibition, Thai floral garland making demonstration, Thai fruit carving demonstration, quizzes and souvenir giveaways, and a visa clinic for those who wish to travel to Thailand. About 15,000 persons visited the Festival.

 

The activities on 1 and 2 June 2018 were sponsored by Thai Airways International, Tourism Authority of Thailand, New Delhi Office, Quest Mall Department Store and 4 five-star hotels in Kolkata, namely ITC Sonar, JW Marriott Kolkata, The LaLiT Great Eastern, and The Oberoi Grand.

 

3.        2-7 June 2018, the “Thai Food Week” – 5 participating hotels: (1) ITC Sonar (2) JW Marriott Kolkata (3) The LaLiT Great Eastern, (4) The Oberoi Grand and (5) The Park, Kolkata, offered Thai food cooking demonstrations, and special Thai menus during the Thai Food Week. Diners were also entered into lucky draws to win return tickets to Thailand, sponsored by Thai Airways International.

 

4.        1-7 June 2018, “Thai Product Corner” – Spencer’s, the City’s leading supermarket chain, arranged a Thai Product Corner at its branch in the Quest Mall, and distributed information about Thailand Foundation’s Youtube Channel, which have cooking demonstration videos of 40 Thai food recipes.

 

5.        4-5 June 2018, “Thai Fruit Carving Classes” – the Royal Thai Consulate-General, Kolkata, organised Thai fruit carving classes for 20 participants, taught by Chef Ananchai Suttison from The Park, Kolkata.
