The Royal Thai Consulate-General in Kolkata donated medical equipment comprising 2 ventilators and 1 ICU patient bed worth 3.76 Lakh INR to Jai Prakash Narayan Hospital in Gaya, Bihar, India, under the Royal Thai Government’s Project to Empower Public Health Capacities in Bihar, India, initiated by Miss Sweeya Santipitaks, Consul-General of Thailand in Kolkata. The handover ceremony of the medical equipment was organised at the Hospital on 10 October 2020. Shri Abhishek Kumar, District Magistrate of Gaya, and Dr. K. K. Ray, Civil Surgeon of Gaya, were present at the said ceremony.

The project is considered part of the volunteerism and charity project under the auspices of His Majesty King Maha Vajiralongkorn Phra Vajiraklaochaoyuhua (King Rama X) of Thailand, and is in commemoration of His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej The Great (King Rama IX) Memorial Day on 13 October 2020. It aims at reinforcing the public health capacity in Gaya District, state of Bihar, during the COVID-19 pandemic. The Royal Thai Consulate-General in Kolkata wishes that this project shall benefit to both Indians and Thai monks and lay persons who travel in pilgrimage or reside in this Land of Lord Buddha. Through its philanthropic project, it wishes to create a stronger linkage and bring about closer ties between Thailand and India both at local administration level and people-to-people levels, which would, in turn, further enrich the Thai-Indian diplomatic relations in their global picture.
